Vision Impairment and the Disability Tax Credit

The DTC recognizes vision impairments that significantly restrict daily activities or require substantial time and effort to manage.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Visual acuity in both eyes is 20/200 or less (legal blindness)

  • Field of vision is less than 20 degrees in diameter

  • Your condition affects you almost all the time, about 90% or more

  • Your impairment has lasted or is expected to last for a continuous period of at least 12 months

Common Qualifying Conditions:

  • Legal blindness

  • Macular Degeneration

  • Glaucoma

  • Diabetic retinopathy

  • Retinitis pigmentosa

Medical Certification:

Must be certified by a medical doctor, nurse practitioner or optometrist
