The DTC supports individuals who have difficulty speaking so as to be understood by someone familiar to them due to a medical condition.
You can't talk in a way that a friend can understand you in a quiet place, or it takes you three times longer to talk than someone else your age, even if you use special help like therapy or medicine
Condition must be prolonged and affect daily communication
Your impairment has lasted or is expected to last for a continuous period of at least 12 months
Speech impediments (e.g., severe stuttering)
Aphasia due to stroke or brain injury
Vocal cord paralysis
ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis)
Must be certified by a medical doctor, nurse practitioner or speech-language pathologist
