Feeding Impairment and the Disability Tax Credit

Feeding impairments that require significant effort or assistance to eat or prepare food qualify under the DTC

Eligibility Criteria:

  • You can't prepare your food or feed yourself 

  • It takes you three times longer than someone your age, even if you use therapy or medication

  • Use of feeding tubes or other aids

  • Your condition affects you almost all the time, about 90% or more

  • Your impairment has lasted or is expected to last for a continuous period of at least 12 months

  • Common Qualifying Conditions:

  • Dysphagia 

  • ALS 

  • Stroke-related impairments 

  • Neurological disorders affecting motor skills

  • Medical Certification:

    Must be certified by a medical doctor, nurse practitioner or occupational therapist
